A COACH IS A ROLE MODEL WHO:
- Refrains from using abusive or derogatory language, especially in the heat of competitive play.
- Is sensitive to the player’s mental, physical and emotional character – the whole person.
- Acknowledges the umpire’s authority, uses tact and good judgement when questioning an umpire’s interpretation of the rules, doesn’t argue with the umpire’s decision at the plate and/or in the field.
- Acknowledges skills, good plays, and extra effort -- whether by their team or the opposition.
A COACH IS A PERSON WHO USES COMMON SENSE REGARDING SAFETY AND HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS BY:
- Assuring that their players are property trained to avoid injuries during offensive and defensive plays (such as turning towards the catcher when a batter thinks they may be hit with the ball, and by teaching proper sliding techniques).
- Assuring the playing fields are free of dangerous materials (glass, rocks, etc.) and that bases are secured.
- Assuring that ice packs and a first-aid kit are available during all practices and games, and that all players have liquids to drink (their own or a team cooler), especially during hot weather.
