UMPIRES WANTED 2024! 

EBSA UMPIRE PROGRAM
BASEBALL & FAST PITCH SOFTBALL 

Qualifications:  

  • No umpire experience necessary.  
  • Must be responsible, reliable and enthusiastic.  
  •  Must be willing to learn and be prepared for physical activity.  
  • Must be able to communicate and use common sense.  
  • PREFER HIGH SCHOOL AGE OR OLDER TO APPLY. (If younger than high school age, a meeting shall be arranged with EBSA to discuss baseball/softball experience and the qualifications listed above)  

Training: 

Time & location to be determined. Classroom and hands on training will occur Sunday afternoons in March. We will also umpire EBSA practice games prior to opening day. Veteran & novice umpires are expected to attend each training session. Training and instruction will continue throughout the season. 

Equipment: 

EBSA provides a shirt & umpire equipment. The shirt & equipment shall be returned at the end of the season. 

Leagues: 

Our main focus will be to provide umpires for the EBSA house leagues. This includes three levels of  LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL and three levels of girls FAST PITCH SOFTBALL. Travel baseball will be available for experienced umpires. Your development will determine the level you work. 

Schedule: 

The majority of EBSA Baseball / Softball games are played from mid April through June. Games are played on weeknights, Saturday & Sunday. Several EBSA baseball leagues continue to play games from July through October and a limited number of umpire opportunities will be available for these games. 

Work Load: 

We make every effort to accommodate your schedule. Your availability, development, commitment and the number of umpires we employ will determine the number of games you work. 

Travel: 

EBSA plays games throughout Evanston. A list of parks and directions can be found on the EBSA website. Most games are played at James Park. 

Pay: 

$30 - $70 per game. Experience, development, attitude and IHSA certification will determine pay level.

Feedback: 

Your development as an umpire is important to EBSA. We will monitor your progress and provide feedback. You will continue to learn throughout the season and will be expected to share game experiences with your fellow umpires. Our veteran umpires will be available to mentor novice umpires.
